Rudy’s BBQ

My wife refers to Rudy’s BBQ as “a very interesting place". Rudy’s itself refers to itself as the “Worst Bar-B-Q in Texas.”  Inside Rudy’s is setup “family style” like a big church potluck dinner.  In fact the tables are folding chairs, instead of normal restaurant chairs.

Orders are placed at the counter, if you have never been to Rudy’s before, let them know you are a rookie.  They will explain everything for you.  Dinner choices are paid by the half-pound, and they allow you to test anything except for the stuff on the bones (Ribs, etc).

The best part about Rudy’s is the allergy card that lists all of the options and all of your gluten free options:

THe Rudy’s BBQ Sauce formulas contain no products that would be suspected of containing gluten.  However, tehy do contain distilled vinegar, caramel color and modified food starch.

Texas Spice, the manufacturer of our rubs state their products are gluten free.  They use a fully acid hydrolyzed corn protein which does not contain wheat gluten.

Want to wreck my stay? Have internet that sucks

September 10th, 2009

Dear hotel,

Would you like to wreck my stay??  Have internet that sucks.  Seriously sucks….. I will be at this Residence Inn in Round Rock TX for 14 days and of those 14 days I can count on “good” internet for 5 of those days.

I understand that hotel internet is not blazing fast or the greatest out there, but at least allow me to loud a webpage, use my VPN and check up on Google Reader.  Otherwise your internet is a big fat fail, a huge fail.

And when you say the internet is down and I can access a page over http but not https, you really don’t know what is wrong.

So Marriott or GlobalSuiteWireless or whoever is “working” on fixing this, please do so quickly.  And come up with a way to make me happy.

What you may or may not understand is my work day is not done when I leave a client’s site.  Chances are I didn’t have access outside of my phone email to respond to crisis’s.  Now I have chance to at night and can’t.

Also when your wife works from home and travels with you, she needs access to the Intertubes to get her job done so she can travel with me.

Very pissed off

CB Potts Restaurant & Brewery

September 7th, 2009

For the time I was in Denver I was working at the Symantec office, located in the Greenwood Village suburb of Denver.  The hotel was the Residence Inn located across the street.  (If you have to do business at that Symantec office the Residence Inn not only is in walking distance but has a Symantec rate.)

Walking to dinner is something I try to do as much as possible.  Based on recommendations of people I was working with, we (wife, son and I) walked to CB Potts and enjoyed a great dinner.

CB is known for its microbrews, wining awards all over the state of Colorado, however as someone w/ a wheat allergy I stay away from beer so can’t comment on that.

However CB Potts is great for burgers and other pub food.  While I can’t recommend it based on personal experience try the microbrew beer, I’ve heard its good.

Fat Sully’s Pizza

September 7th, 2009

If you walk across the street from Lovely Connections Bakery to Fat Sully’s Pizza you will enjoy great pizza and a great time.

In fact, my family did the opposite, we found Fat Sully’s first and then walked across the street for desert.

Fat Sully’s makes great pizza, both regular crust and gluten free pizza if that is a requirement.  My wife found this place once again through her chat board as a recommendation.

A pool hall with a pizza parlor is the best way to describe Fat Sully’s.  Really enjoyable for able for my wife, my son and I.

A great gluten-free bakery in Denver area

September 7th, 2009

lovelyconnections

My wife found a great gluten-free bakery in the Denver area through some of her friends on her chat board.  In fact a lot of these places were first suggested on that board.

Lovely Confections Bakery produces bakery items using local and organic ingredients, along with gluten-free baked goods for those that need it, however you need to call ahead if you need gluten-free baked goods.

If you are just looking for great baked goods wonder by and grab something fresh and great.
